WORK STUDY

The Federal Work-Study Program

The Federal Work-Study program is a federally funded financial aid program that  assist students who demonstrate need after filing the FAFSA. The work-study  program, including the funding aspect, assists students in covering indirect  educational costs while providing valuable real work experience. Through their work-study roles, students engage with faculty, staff, supervisors, and other college community members, gaining essential work habits that will serve them throughout their careers.

Eligibility

• Students must be a US citizen, permanent resident, or eligible non-citizen as determined by FAFSA and USCIS

• Students must demonstrate financial need to be eligible for Federal Work Study as determined by filing the FAFSA and meet satisfactory academic progress standards at the end of each academic year.

• Students must be enrolled in half-time credit hours or greater. If a student drops below half-time enrollment (6 credit hours) they must immediately notify their supervisor of their change in enrollment status. As a result, students dropping below half-time hours automatically forfeit their work-study position.

Restrictions

•         Students may not hold more than one work-study position at any given time.

•         Students are not permitted to work during any regularly scheduled class or exam period

if the class/exam is canceled or dismissed early.

•         Students may not be employed under the supervision of a relative.

•         Students may not hold a work-study position and a campus position at the same time.

•         Students may not work more than 20 hours per week.

Work Study Awards

Work-study awards are need-based awards and are awarded on a first-come, first served basis. The maximum award amount is 2000.00 for the full academic year. 1,000 for the fall term and 1,000 for the spring term. Students may not earn more than the amount awarded which will be reflected in their work-study contract. Supervisors will be notified monthly of the student’s earnings to date and the remaining amount that can be earned. The supervisor and the student are responsible for keeping up with the amounts earned and the amount remaining to be earned.
