Components
COUNSELING
Academic, Personal, Career & Financial Aid
The Student Support Services Program Counseling
Component is multifaceted. It consists of a variety of
programming options designed to bolster participants’
confidence in their ability to achieve academically and
to earn a college degree.
Issues related to self-confidence, stress, and
general anxiety, about the college environment are
addressed by the program staff. The tutorial
coordinators will conduct an intake interview to develop
the combination of counseling activities to meet the
individual and collective needs of participants.
TUTORIAL
The Tutorial Component offers individual and group
tutoring for students requesting assistance with class
assignments. The Tutorial Lab is located in the TRIO
Center. It is open daily for tutoring sessions. Students
needing assistance are encouraged to schedule sessions
according to their academic needs. Tutoring is offered
in a variety of subjects (English, History, Science, and
Mathematics). Supple-mental instruction in Algebra will
be offered.
PEER TUTORS
Students are selected as tutors on the basis of academic
performance. Students who have excelled academically
after their first year of college are eligible to work
as tutors in the Student Support Services Program.
Tutors work with program participants to provide
supplementary academic support in most subject areas, as
well as, assist with class assignments.
